Putting all speculations to rest, Samajwadi Party (SP) has decided to field Mulayam Singh Yadav from Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri, a constituency which he has represented four times in the past, for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
The first list of six candidates was released by the party - three general and an equal number of reserved seats. The seats are Firozabad, Mainpuri, Badaun, Etawah (reserved), Robertsganj (reserved), and Bahraich (reserved).
The general seats will be contested by three sitting MP - Mulayam on Mainpuri (the seat he had won but vacated to retain Azamgarh), Dharmendra Yadav will re-contest his traditional Badaun seat, and Akshaya Yadav on his Firozabad seat.
Bhailal Kol will be contesting on Robertsganj reserved seat, while Shabbir Balmiki will try his luck on Bahraich reserved seat and Kamlesh Katheria will contest the Etawah reserved seat.
Samajwadi Party national general secretary Ramgopal Yadav released the first list from the party’s New Delhi office, reported Hindustan Times.
There was tremendous uncertainty whether Mulayam would contest the upcoming elections as Mulayam, so far, did not make any statement on the issue even once.
