As per a BBC report, Clijsters, who is now 36, says that she has taken the decision after being inspired by the likes of Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka, who have kept playing professionally even as mothers.
"Mothers are trying to compete at the highest level - that is the inspiration," the former number one player stated.
After coming out of retirement the first time in 2009, she won three Grand Slams, a major addition to the previous single she had from before retirement. During her retirement, Clijsters run a tennis academy and also worked as a commentator.
