Soon after he accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of ‘personal corruption,’ Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi seems to have dropped the idea of ‘exposing’ him. Gandhi-led Congress delegation met Prime Minister today and raised the issue of farmer suicides with Modi, urging him to write off the loans given to farmers.
After threatening an earth-shattering disclosure on demonetisation earlier, Rahul Gandhi had said on Wednesday (14 December) that he will expose Prime Minister Narendra Modi's personal complicity in corruption but "a terrified government" didn't let him speak in Parliament.
What’s behind the flip? While Gandhi can’t present the “proof” he claims to have in public because he doesn’t want his goose to be cooked in courts, it is within his reach to raise the issue in the Parliament as he enjoys Parliamentary privileges.
Disruption should not be an issue because it is his own party that has created a ruckus in the Parliament. For him to speak, the house can be brought to a standstill. The fact that he hasn’t spoken yet only consolidates the notion that he has no proof. Therefore, the party chose sensitive issues such as farmer suicide and farm loan waiver to facilitate a flip.
