Counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir which saw a dip during Lok Sabha elections have begun to gather steam again as the frequency of gunfights and number of terrorist deaths in the Kashmir valley have increased, reports Hindustan Times.
Since the last round of voting in the state ended on 6 May at Anantnag and Ladakh Lok Sabha constituencies, the security forces launched eight counter-terrorism operations, six of which led to successful killing of 12 terrorists. This sadly also resulted in the deaths of two Army jawans.
During the election period between 11 April and 6 May there were just four encounters in which eight terrorists were killed.
In a press conference held on 24 April, the Director General of Police Dilbag Singh had apprised the media that though the counter insurgency operations were not halted during the polls, the primary focus of the police had been on peacefully concluding the elections.
