The Rani Laxmibai Aatmaraskha Kaaryakram (self-defence programme) and the Yog Shiksha Kaaryakram (yoga education programme) would be made mandatory for all schools across the state.
The move comes as a part of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party government’s efforts to popularise yoga over the last few years.
Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Dinesh Sharma, in a media interaction stated that Yoga was not part of any religion but a part of physical fitness.
The people are trying to create various kinds of misunderstanding on this issue. Yoga doesn’t belong to any religion. This is just an initiative to keep everyone fit.Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma
