According to the monthly subscription data for the month of January 2019 released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Reliance Jio has continued its rapid growth, adding 9.3 million subscribers in the period, while Vodafone Idea took the biggest hit, losing 3.5 million subscribers in the same time, reports Telecom Talk.
Vodafone Idea continues to retain the top spot in the overall number of subscribers, still having 384 million customers. Jio has now become the telecom operator with the second-highest number of subscribers, with an overall user base of 290 million.
Bharti Airtel has seen positive, albeit extremely slow, growth, increasing its number of subscribers by one lakh; its subscriber base stands at 285 million.
Tata Teleservices also witnessed negative subscriber growth, with its user base declining by 847,925.
The only other major telecom company which has seen sustained user growth for the past several months is state-owned BSNL, which added 986,681 subscribers in January. The other major public sector telecom company, MTNL, lost 4927 subscribers in the same period.
