The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has come out with a reminder list of 301 films eligible for Oscars.
The list includes Indian films like SS Rajamouli’s “RRR”, Vivek Agnihotri’s “The Kashmir Files”, Rishabh Shetty’s “Kantara”, R Madhavan’s “Rocketry: The Nambi Effect”, Sanjay Bhansali’s “Gangubai Kathiawadi”, among others making the cut.
However, merely featuring in this list doesn’t guarantee advancing to the final nominations, which are to be announced on 24 January. The Awards are to be announced on 12 March 2023.
India’s official entry, Pan Nalin’s Chhello Show also features on the list. It also includes other regional cinema like Me Vasantrao and Tujhiya Sathi Kahi Hi in Marathi, Sanjay Mishra’s The Next Morning, Anand Krishnan’s Iravin Nizhal, and Kannada movie Vikrant Rona.
Directors Vivek Agnihotri and Rishabh Shetty took to Twitter to express their gratitude. While these movies might have been shortlisted only in particular categories, they can still grab a nomination in other categories too.
SS Rajamouli’s RRR has generated the most Oscar buzz this year, after taking the American theatres by storm. Many acclaimed directors and actors have vouched for the movie, with many claiming that the movie is sure to win the Best Motion Picture award this year.
