In a tragic incident, the Czech Republic is in mourning as it grapples with the aftermath of the deadliest shooting in its history, which unfolded at Prague's Charles University.
The nation observes a day of mourning following the devastating attack that claimed the lives of at least 15 people, including the 24-year-old student responsible for the rampage.
As per reports by Deccan Herald, the tragedy unfolded in the historic centre of Prague, leaving the entire country of 11 million shaken.
The assailant, who legally owned several weapons, targeted the Faculty of Arts during a 20-minute shooting spree.
Swift police intervention prevented further casualties, but the nation is left to cope with the profound impact of the incident.
However, the incident has also left 25 people wounded, 10 of them seriously.
Officials, including Prime Minister Petr Fiala, expressed shock and grief, with Fiala stating, "It's hard to find words to express condemnation but also pain and grief that the entire society is feeling."
The tragedy has resonated globally, with leaders such as German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the White House extending condolences and support to the affected families.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and Czech officials highlight the rarity of such incidents in a country known for its stringent firearm access regulations.
