After Arvinder Singh Lovely resigned from the post of president of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC), the party appointed its Punjab in charge Devender Yadav as the interim DPCC chief.

Lovely had resigned over the Congress's alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the issue of tickets given to "total strangers" candidates like Udit Raj and Kanhaiya Kumar.

Devender Yadav is the former MLA from Badli, a constituency in Delhi he represented from 2008 to 2015. The dual responsibility will be a challenge for him as Congress is contesting against AAP in Punjab, while in alliance with it in Delhi.

Under the INDI Alliance, the Congress is contesting three of Delhi's seven Lok Sabha seats, while the AAP is contesting the remaining four seats.

Despite the 2019 loss, the Congress has again shown trust in JP Agarwal from Chandni Chowk. Udit Raj is fielded from North West Delhi and Kanhaiya Kumar from North East Delhi.
