Former Karnataka chief minister and BJP leader D V Sadananda Gowda has announced his retirement from electoral politics.
Gowda's announcement comes after he was denied a ticket by BJP from Bengaluru North for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
"I am upset with BJP as the election ticket (from Bangalore North seat) has been given to someone else in my place," Gowda said.
Gowda claimed that he received offers from Congress to join the party but will stay in BJP.
"Yes, I was invited to join the Congress party, but I will not join the Congress party...Narendra Modi should become Prime Minister again," Gowda said, Economic Times reported.
In a direct jibe at B S Yediyurappa and his son, Gowda said Karnataka BJP is handled by one family.
Gowda, a leader from the Vokkaliga community, one of the dominant communities in the state, added that his purpose now is to purify the BJP in Karnataka.
BJP shifted Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shobha Karandlaje, who is currently representing Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha segment, to contest from Bangalore North.
