Amidst the ongoing seat-sharing negotiations within the NDA in Bihar, the INDI alliance has extended an offer to Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) Chief Chirag Paswan, proposing eight Lok Sabha seats in Bihar and two in Uttar Pradesh, as per sources disclosed to NDTV.
This offer, includes all six seats contested by the undivided Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) in 2019, along with two additional constituencies in Bihar and two in Uttar Pradesh.
Meanwhile, under the NDA's current proposition, he is only being offered six Lok Sabha seats in Bihar, subject to sharing with his uncle and Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party chief Pashupati Paras, with whom he shares strained relations.
Earlier, the LJP had witnessed a split in 2021 following a power struggle initiated by Pashupati Paras after the demise of party patriarch Ram Vilas Paswan.
The internal rift escalated when Paras was granted a cabinet position by the BJP-led NDA, prompting Chirag Paswan to criticise Janata Dal United and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar while refraining from targeting the BJP and PM Narendra Modi.
Having previously left the NDA over disagreements with Nitish Kumar, Chirag Paswan rejoined the alliance last year when the Bihar chief minister was part of the Mahagathbandhan.
However, tensions within the NDA resurfaced earlier this year following Kumar's return to the alliance.
With Bihar contributing 40 seats to the Lok Sabha, the INDI alliance sees an opportunity to curb the NDA's momentum following the previous 39-1 election outcome.
