India Secures Key Positions In UN Bodies Including Getting Re-elected To INCB For Third Term With Highest Votes: All About It

In a significant development at the United Nations, India has clinched several key positions in various UN bodies.
Jagjit Pavadia, India's nominee, secured a remarkable victory by being re-elected for a third term to the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB), garnering the highest number of votes.
Apart from Pavadia's re-election, India also earned seats in several other crucial UN bodies, including the Commission on the Status of Women, the Executive Boards of UNICEF, UNDP, and UNFPA, as well as the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women and the World Food Programme.
India's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj, reiterated India's steadfast commitment to actively engaging in global discourse and cooperation within these UN bodies.
She emphasized India's guiding philosophy of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' (the world is one family), highlighting India's dedication to contributing constructively to global deliberations for the betterment of all.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also lauded Pavadia's re-election, noting that India secured the highest number of votes among all elected member states to the INCB.
The International Narcotics Control Board, established in 1968, is an independent and quasi-judicial monitoring body for the implementation of UN international drug control conventions.
INCB plays a vital role in ensuring adequate supplies of drugs for medical and scientific purposes while preventing their diversion into illicit channels.
