In a concerning development, Khalistani separatist leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun has expressed solidarity with terrorists responsible for ambushing an Indian Army vehicle in Jammu and Kashmir.
Pannun, who identifies as the spokesperson of the newly declared Kashmir-Khalistan Referendum Front, stated that the attack on Indian soldiers was a "consequence of India’s violence against Kashmiris.
The ambush, which occurred in the Poonch district, resulted in the tragic loss of five soldiers, with three others sustaining injuries.
Intelligence sources suggest that Pannun's declaration underscores his association with designated terror groups in Pakistan, raising serious concerns about his involvement in activities against Indian security forces.
Pannun, listed as an "individual terrorist" by the Ministry of Home Affairs on 1 July 2020, is the chief of the Sikhs for Justice separatist group.
He holds dual citizenship of the US and Canada and has been wanted in India on terror charges.
The US had earlier alleged an Indian link to a foiled assassination plot targeting Pannun, prompting India to institute an inquiry committee to investigate the matter's implications for national security.
