"Main baat hai ki Guddu Muslim... (the main thing is that Guddu Muslim is...)", were the last words of gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed's brother Ashraf before the duo was shot dead last year on the same day (15 April 2023).
While he couldn't complete what he wanted to say about Guddu Muslim, Atiq Ahmed's son Ali has told Uttar Pradesh Police that Guddu Muslim was a gaddar (betrayer) and that's what his uncle wanted to reveal before being shot dead.
Guddu Muslim was one of the killers of Umesh Pal, who was shot dead in February 2023 at his residence in broad daylight for being a witness in Bahujan Samaj Party (SP) MLA Raju Pal's murder case.
While four of the accused in the Umesh Pal murder case including Atiq Ahmed's son Asad have been killed in police encounters, Guddu is still on the run.
Ali alleged that it was Guddu who gave the tip to the police through one of his aides, leading to his brother being killed. Ali said that apart from Guddu, many men of his gang have turned out to be betrayers.
Asad was killed just a couple of days before his father Atiq in a police encounter in Jhansi, along with co-accused Ghulam. Earlier, Arbaaz and Usman were killed in two separate encounters.
