During his official visit to France, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honored with the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour, the highest award in the country, by French President Emmanuel Macron.
The Ministry of External Affairs expressed their appreciation for the warm gesture of Indo-French partnership, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour by President Emmanuel Macron.
This prestigious award is slated to symbolize the strong bond between India and France, and signifies the deepening ties between the two nations.
The Legion of Honor, as described on its official website, is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional merit in service to their country, whether in a civilian or military capacity.
Foreign individuals can receive the Legion of Honor if they have contributed to France through services in areas such as culture, economics, or support for causes championed by France, including human rights, freedom of the press, and humanitarian action.
The award can also be conferred during state visits to official figures, in line with diplomatic reciprocity and to support France's foreign policy.
On a two-day state visit to France, PM Modi will also be participating in the French National Day (Bastille Day) celebrations as the Guest of Honour. Upon his arrival in Paris, he engaged in meetings with various French officials, including the Senate leader and his counterpart Elizabeth Borne.
Additionally, he also addressed the Indian diaspora at La Seine Musicale and attended a private dinner with President Macron and his wife at the Elysee Palace.
