Aiming at facilitating transportation of goods of small scale industries, the Railways has undertaken piecemeal loading.
According to Northern Railway General Manager Ashutosh Gangal, Delhi Division is now helping merchants of small scale industries/businesses by transporting their commodities through piecemeal loading under the Freight Forwarded Scheme and "Vyapar Mala" scheme.
Small traders and merchants of Delhi Kishanganj are now transporting pulses, rice, edible oil, cotton textile, groceries, spices, milk powder and fruit juices to various destinations in North East India under the schemes.
During Financial Year 2020-21 and Financial Year 2021-22, Delhi Division has loaded and dispatched 7,952 wagons under Freight Forwarder Scheme and 399 wagons under Vyapar Mala Scheme.
Various commodities like Jaggery, Bentonite Sulphur and fertilizer are being loaded and dispatched through this channel.
In a bid to attract new small businesses, merchants and traders as well as incentivise existing small clients for piecemeal loading, Delhi Division, Northern Railway is regularly having freight customer meetings and is committed towards sustainable growth momentum in piecemeal loading of commodities going forward.
