Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to participate in a program in Kolkata in December, during which approximately 1 lakh people will collectively recite the Bhagavad Gita, as per Sukanta Majumdar, the BJP’s West Bengal president.
The event, named 'Ek Lakh Gita Path,' is scheduled for 24 December at the Brigade Parade Ground in the city center, Majumdar informed PTI. He stated, "We have extended an invitation to PM Modi to join the program, and he has accepted. One lakh people will recite Bhagavad Gita together on that day."
Majumdar noted that various religious groups are collaborating to organise the extensive gathering, emphasising that it will be a non-political event. Invitations are also set to be sent to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Governor CV Ananda Bose, and other prominent personalities from the state.
“This event has nothing to do with the BJP, and we are not organisi ng it,” clarified Majumdar. Contrarily, the ruling Trinamool Congress asserted that the program was strategically planned with an eye on the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh remarked, “As the Lok Sabha elections are approaching, it is quite natural that BJP leaders would be visiting the state more frequently. We have seen this trend ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and the assembly polls of 2021. But, this would not yield any result.”
