  • Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has written to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on the "deplorable" condition of the Railway Hockey Stadium in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.

Scindia has requested Vaishnaw to make necessary renovations, and to ensure that the astroturf at the stadium is maintained.

In a letter posted on Twitter, Scindia said that the Railway Hockey Stadium at Tansen Road, Gwalior, needs attention. In the absence of proper maintenance, the astroturf at the stadium has depleted and it requires to be replaced.

He added that the changing room and the wash room need renovation. He has also requested Vaishnaw to examine and initiate necessary steps in the matter.

Ashwini Vaishnaw responded to Scindia on Twitter and said that renovation started recently and will be completed in the next few months.

This report says that renovation work at the stadium, in addition to work on the astroturf, was underway in June and it was the second time in 15 years that a new astroturf was being laid at the stadium.

The report also points out that renovation work was being undertaken by the Railways for the third time in 35 years at the stadium. The stadium was inaugurated by Madhavrao Scindia in the late 1980s and Jyotiraditya Scindia had inaugurated the newly-laid astroturf at the same stadium.
