Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president K Annamalai today (14 July) appeared before the Saidapet court in Chennai in connection with the defamation case filed against him by senior Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader and party treasurer, TR Baalu for remarks made against him during the release of the DMK Files.
Annamalai had alleged that Baalu and his family had amassed huge wealth through corruption and not declared all his assets in his election affidavit.
Speaking to journalists after the hearing, he said that this is a fight between a first-generation politician relying solely on people's support and a family that has been in politics for three generations and enjoying the power of the state machinery.
Further, he said that he had requested the court to summon members of Baalu's family for the hearing so that they too can be cross-examined.
He added that the next hearing would be in the third week of August.
