I Tried Speaking To The Protesting Students At Ashoka University - Here's How It Went
Dear Reader,
Recently, Ashoka University, often dubbed the 'Ivy League' institute of India, was embroiled in controversy as students from the 'Social Justice Forum' (SJF) raised invective-filled slogans of 'Brahmin-Baniya Murdabad.'
This incident comes amidst ongoing protests by the SJF at the University gates, where they are demanding a caste census, an annual Ambedkar memorial lecture, and a revision of the late fee payment policy.
A ground report by Swarajya shed light on the atmosphere within the university, revealing a notable lack of interest among other students. Some expressed disinterest, while others were actively repelled by the protests.
Several students, speaking anonymously, disclosed instances of bullying by Anil Kumar Bahariya, a member of the SJF. They accused him of using aggressive tactics against those with differing viewpoints. The group has also been accused of filming without consent and distributing pamphlets in student rooms without permission.
The SJF's demands and alleged intimidatory tactics have faced opposition from other students, prompting some to consider legal action against the group.
For more insights into the issue, the individuals involved, and the modus operandi of the SJF, you can read a detailed report by my colleague Sharan, who covered the situation on the ground: https://swarajyamag.com/reports/i-tried-speaking-to-the-protesting-students-at-ashok-university-heres-how-it-went.
Until next time,
