Bihar's infamous gangster-turned-politician Anand Mohan Singh, who was convicted for murdering a young Dalit IAS officer, Gopinath Krishnaiah, in December 1994, was released from prison early this monring (April 27).
Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, under pressure from the RJD, tweaked prison rules to facilitate the release of Singh, who wields a lot of influence over Rajputs, a community that the RJD wants to court.
Kumar has come in for a lot of flak for this. IAS officers' association, the BJP and Dalit rights bodies have slammed the Bihar CM.
