The man who stabbed a woman to death in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad district in what police say was a “one-sided” love affair, has been arrested after nearly a week-long search.
The accused, 21-year-old Sherkhan Choudhary, was caught around 1 am during the intervening night of 21 and 22 June, a press statement released by the Ghaziabad police says. The cops nabbed him when he was changing his location from Harsh Vihar to Panchsheel colony, and was accompanied by his brother Imran and brother-in-law Rizwan.

On the evening of 17 June, Sherkhan had stabbed to death a woman named Naina Kaur at Tila Mor market.
Naina was a resident of Ghaziabad’s Tulsi Niketan colony while Sherkhan lived in Delhi’s Sunder Nagri. Both locations are near Delhi-Ghaziabad border.
Naina was scheduled to marry someone else on 22 June. Keshav Kumar Mishra, circle officer (Sahibabad, told Swarajya that after his arrest, Sherkhan told the police that he and Naina had been in a relationship once and he had been pressuring her to elope with him. Her repeated refusal prompted him to kill her.

While Sherkhan had been absconding and had a Rs 20,000 reward on him, three other accused - Salman, Ashiq alias Asiz and Aamir – were arrested on 18 June itself. Sherkhan, Salman and Aamir are residents of Sunder Nagri while Asiz lives in Sahibabad. The police have now also booked Imran and Rizwan for sheltering Sherkhan after the crime.
The police have filed two FIRs in the case – one for murder and one under the Arms Act.
The press statement says that the police would book the accused under the Gangsters’ Act too.
As earlier reported by Swarajya, Sherkhan Choudhary is a popular Tik Tok star with over 4 lakh followers (@sherkhanchoudhary02). He also has over 60,000 followers on Facebook and is fairly popular on Instagram too.
His last Tik Tik video shows a hand searching for the right key on a keyboard to place a ring till it settles on the letter ‘N’.

Trying to decode mind of a killer thru his social media expressions. Was he Shahrukh of Darr/Bazigar or was there deep religious hate at play? pic.twitter.com/Ly3fqW0C9w
