On Tuesday (17 October), the Jharkhand High Court issued a stay on the legal proceedings involving Chief Minister Hemant Soren at a Jamshedpur court.
These proceedings, stemming from a 2014 case, alleged a violation of the model code of conduct.
Justice Sanjay Kumar Dwivedi's bench decreed that no coercive actions can be taken against Soren, directing the state government to submit a response regarding the matter.
Soren, challenging the ongoing proceedings against him in the Jamshedpur court, related to a case filed during the 2014 assembly elections, brought his case to the high court.
The accusation against Soren revolves around violating the model code of conduct by extending campaign activities beyond the prescribed period for his party's (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha) candidate.
The high court is scheduled to revisit the case in six weeks.
Notably, a similar case against Soren was dismissed by the high court in 2022.
In that instance, the accusation pertained to Soren wearing a sash adorned with the JMM logo while heading to cast his vote during the 2019 assembly polls.
