Russian President Vladimir Putin has that the Indian government was acting independently in the best interests of its citizens and any attempts by the West to create a divide between Moscow and New Delhi would be pointless.
Speaking at a keynote address in Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi, Putin said, "The West is trying to create an enemy out of everyone who does not agree with their monopoly, everyone is at risk - even India, but the Indian leadership is acting independently in the interests on its nation".
"Attempts to turn India away from Russia are pointless, India is an independent state," he added.
Putin's remarks come as Indian refiners are facing criticism for purchasing discounted Russian oil after Western nations imposed sanctions on Russia due to its invasion of Ukraine in 2014.
Heaping praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin commended the growing strength of India under his leadership.
"India has more than 1.5 billion of population, more than 7 per cent of economic growth...that's a powerful country, mighty country. And it's growing stronger and stronger under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi," Putin said, reports NDTV.
Furthermore, Putin highlighted the global impact of both India and Russia, emphasizing that Indians are making their mark in various parts of the world.

The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
