CBSE Fights Fear Of Maths: Decides To Introduce Two Levels Of Mathematics Exam To Aid Class X Students

To ease student pressure over Mathematics examination, the Central Board of Secondary education has decided to introduce two levels of the test from academic session 2019-20, Hindustan Times has reported.

As per the report, this two level examination would be held for the first time in March 2020. Under the system, one of the exams would be easy and another would be of standard difficulty, based on the current pattern. The exams would be styled as Mathematics-Basic and Mathematics-Standard.

CBSE says that the syllabus, teaching and assessment for both the tests would be the same. The students based on their preference can choose the test they want to take.

The board has reportedly cleared that the basic test is designed for those who do not wish to study higher mathematics. Those who wish to opt for this subject in senior secondary level though would have to appear for the standard test.

The students would be able to choose which examination they wish to appear when the school uploads List of Candidates (LoC) on CBSE’s portal.

It was earlier reported that school boards around the world follow this practice. The Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education, for instance, provides two different sets of curriculum, a core curriculum which falls in the ability range of majority students and an extended curriculum designed for more academically able students.
