A row has erupted within the Tamil Nadu Congress over the candidature of Karti Chidambarm for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, India Today has reported.
Karti Chidambaram, the son of former senior Congress leader P Chidambaram, is an accused in the Aircel-Maxis money laundering case. Karti has been given a ticket from Sivaganga constituency.
As per the report, the current Member of Parliament from Sivaganga, Sudarsana Natchiappan has protested against Karti’s candidature by asserting that his candidature will damage the party’s image and lead to various future issues.
Natchiappan who was an Union Minister during the UPA era, has also alleged that Karti tried to hamper him in various ways.
As per a report by The Hindu, the decision on a candidate for Sivaganga constituency was delayed for some time due to the power tussle.
Incidentally, Karti Chidambaram has also been mocked for a faux pass during his campaign process, when he was seen sporting a communist flag on his Mercedes Benz.
It has been alleged that Karti Chidambaram received money from INX Media in exchange of wielding his influence to manipulate a tax probe against the latter over violation of Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) conditions to receive investment from Mauritius.
