Hit Where It Hurts The Most? Hotstar Cancels Show With ‘Comedy’ Group AIB Following Sexual Harassment Row

BySwarajya Staff

‘Comedy group’ AIB suffered its first jolt following its embroilment in a sexual harassment row, with video streaming service Hotstar cancelling their show “On Air With AIB”.

This was confirmed by Hotstar in a tweet posted on Monday night (8 October).

In the statement Hotstar conveyed that it was concerned about the recent development with regards to AIB and was as a result cancelling the production of its show with immediate effect.

It also stated that these developments were contrary to the values of its platform and it would not tolerate any compromise with respect and safety of women.

It was also reported yesterday that AIB’s founders Tanmay Bhat and Grsimran Khamba had stepped down from the ‘comedy group’.

Tanmay Bhat, who is AIB's CEO, won't be associated with the everyday working of the group after having been dragged into the #MeToo firestorm that has been enveloping the Indian social media in the course of the past couple of days.

It was reported that Khamba has been accused of emotionally harassing a woman and Bhat had allegedly known about sexual harassment allegations against fellow comedian and former AIB member Utsav Chakraborty.

Chakraborty has been accused of sexual harassment by several women, including underage girls.
