West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has opposed the arrest of senior Congress leader P Chidambaram in the INX Media scam by calling it “very depressing, very bad and sad”, ANI has reported.
While speaking to the media Mamata called the process “wrong” and said that the way Chidambaram’s case has been handled is “very depressing, very bad and sad as well”. She also commented on the stature of Chidambaram by reminding people that he is a former union minister.
Chidambaram’s arrest has resulted in a sharp backlash from his political supporters. Congress workers staged a protest outside his home while he was being taken away to the CBI headquarters. Various Congress leaders too have lodged their protests against the arrest.
Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal who has doubled up as Chidambaram’s lawyer cried foul over his client not getting an immediate hearing before the Supreme Court which sealed his fate.
