In the latest Hurun Global Rich List 2019, Mukesh Ambani is ranked as the tenth richest person in the world, with a net worth of $54 billion.
“Mukesh Ambani of Reliance becomes first Indian to break into global top 10, after 20% increase to US$54 BN,” the report noted. The Hurun List ranked 2,470 billionaires from 67 countries and 1,931 companies.
Jeff Bezos topped the list for the second year in a row, adding about $24 Billion in the last year alone. However, last year was particularly bad for the wealthy as a record 430 billionaires dropped off the Hurun List. China lost the most number of billionaires at 213, followed by India with 52.
Commenting on the reasons for this poor performance, Rupert Hoogewerf, Huran Report Chairman and chief researcher said, “A 23 per cent drop in the Chinese stock markets with a 6 per cent drop in the Chinese Yuan were the main causes of the dropoffs in China, whilst for India it was a 10% decrease in the value of the rupee.”
China Leads All The Way
However, China continues to lead the world fourth year in a row in terms of the total number of billionaires. While it is home to 658 of them, it is followed by the US with 584. Germany, the UK and India are next in line respectively.
“Also, Beijing is the World billionaire capital, 11 Ahead of New York. 4 of Top 5 cities with Highest concentration of billionaire are in China,” the report added.
