The government has also reportedly made it clear that it won’t be seeking any consular access and just wants Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman back. India also made it clear that it won’t entertain Pakistan using him as some sort of a negotiation card.
Media reports have added that India is doing everything it can to bring him back home. Pakistan meanwhile is trying to get a deescalation assurance from the Indian side following which it claims that it would let the pilot go.
MEA had yesterday (27 February) strongly objected to Pakistan’s decision to parade the Indian Air Force pilot who is now in the latter’s custody. This “vulgar display” is in violation of International humanitarian law and the Geneva Convention.
