US President Trump Says Google, Facebook, Amazon Might Be In A ‘Very Antitrust Situation’

US President Donald Trump who had accused Google of being biased against conservative ideas has said that the search giant, Amazon and Facebook may be in an anti-trust position, Bloomberg has reported. He made the comment while giving an interview to the publication.

Antitrust laws are used for protecting consumers from predatory business practices to ensure fair competition in an open-market economy.

“I won’t comment on the breaking up, or whether it’s that or Amazon or Facebook. As you know, many people think it is a very antitrust situation, the three of them. But I just, I won’t comment on that,” Trump said during his Oval office interview.

He said that the situation was “very serious” and it would be dealt with. He said that social media giants Google, Facebook and Twitter were treading a very troubled territory.

While speaking at a rally in Indiana, Trump repeated his concerns over censorship by companies in his address, “I’ve made it clear we as a country cannot tolerate censorship and rigged search results. We’re not going to let them control what we can and cannot see, read, and learn from.” Google has denied any charges of bias.

As argued here, the business model of the technology platform is simple. First, create a very large and growing user base by offering services practically for free, attract developers, businesses and start-ups to feed off this growing ecosystem, and, when the time is ripe, flex the monopoly and network power of the platform to milk billions of dollars.
