Following passenger furore, IndiGo airlines today (26 November) decided to tweak its decision which many passengers complained would have led to them compulsorily paying for seat during web check-in, reported Times of India. This reportedly would have resulted in the airline’s web check-in becoming a paid service.

The airline statement said that, “While the preferred seat pricing starts as low as Rs 100, there would be some seats that may be available for free depending on the market dynamics for the flight. Thus, there are some seats that are available for free at a certain time period before departure or on certain aircraft type.”

“If the passengers have no particular preference for seats and would not like to pay for advance seat selection, they can either reserve any free seats available at the time of web check-in or will, of course, be assigned seats at the time of airport check-in”, added the statement.

This statement comes after the Ministry of Civil Aviation decided to review the airline’s move and check if the fee falls under ‘unbundled pricing framework’.

The online web check-in will begin 48 hours before and will continue up to 2 hours before the flight’s departure.
