Animated sketch of Lord Ram from the movie - left, Bryan Cranston - right
Hollywood actor Bryan Cranston is best known for his role as Walter White in the popular drama Breaking Bad, but it is not common knowledge that he had voiced Lord Ram in Yugo Sako-Ram Mohan’s legendary animation movie - Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Ram.
Sako’s Ramayana is considered one of the greatest adaptations of the Hindu epic, and has been immortalised among 90s kids and adults alike, since it first came out in 1992.
Incidentally, the movie directly released for television and home entertainment systems was also adapted for American audiences.
Released in the US back in 2001, Lord Ram was voiced by none other than Bryan Cranston.
Recently during an interview with Hindustan Times, Cranston recounted his experience, “I enjoyed the storytelling, and from an actor’s standpoint, to be able to tell a story only through your voice as opposed to being on camera was very challenging. But I really enjoyed doing that”.
Besides Indian audiences, the move has also had a profound impact on top Hollywood directors including Zack Snyder who has directed movies like 300, Suicide Squad and Batman vs Superman.
Reports have pointed out screenplay similarities between Sako’s movie and films which were later released including Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire and the Matrix Trilogy.
