The New Indian Express, a Chennai based English language daily newspaper has regretted the publication of an article regarding the Rafale watch worn by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tamil Nadu president K Annamalai.
The publication falsely reported earlier this week that Annamalai had said that he does not have the receipt for the watch.
However, according to a report published by the Times Of India, Annamalai had said that he would produce the receipt for the watch along-with the details of the wealth and property of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leaders before his padayatra in April next year.
The newspaper has now tweeted saying that the article has been updated.
Supporters of Annamalai were however not pleased and said that the fake news published by a well-known newspaper had tarnished the image of their leader.
