The Indian Men’s Hockey team stormed into the semifinal of the Asian Game with a 20-0 win over Sri Lanka on Tuesday (28 August).
As a result of this victory, India also topped its group which comprised of nations like South Korea, Japan, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Hong Kong. India will play the semifinal on Thursday (30 August), with its opponent expected to be either Pakistan or Malaysia.
In the six nations group, India won each of its five games with its highest victory coming against Hong Kong whom it defeated 26-0.
In the rest of its encounters, it won 17-0 against Indonesia, 8-0 against Japan and 5-3 against South Korea. Hence in the course of its five games, India has scored 76 goals and conceded only three.
This news would bring cheer to the Indian contingent which earlier in the morning suffered a heartbreak in the form of PV Sindhu and men’s compound archery team losing their gold medal matches.
In case of the archery team, it lost out on the gold medal with a whisker, by losing on the basis of the number of bullseyes hit by each team after scores remain tied even after a shootout.
