In yet another major development in Tamil Nadu politics, T T V Dhinakaran, a close relative of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) general secretary V K Sasikala, was appointed her deputy. It appears the post was specially created for Dhinakaran.
Dr Venkatesan, another of her close relative, was also appointed to a key party post.
The three of them, Sasikala, Dhinakaran and Dr S Venkatesan, were expelled from the party by Jayalalithaa some years ago. Party members were warned not to be in touch with them. However, Sasikala alone was taken back after a written assurance stating that she would keep away from her family members, including the two, who have been brought into the party fold.
With Sasikala standing disqualified to take over as the next chief minister of Tamil Nadu as a result of the recent Supreme Court verdict, the party leadership has undergone significant changes. The party leadership appointed Edappadi K Palanisamy as the new legislative party leader. Caretaker Chief Minister O Panneerselvam was expelled from the party. Legislators are still confined to a resort near Chennai and are said to be under pressure to back the Sasikala faction.
Will AIADMK line up behind the very same individuals, who were expelled by Jayalalithaa? We will know soon.
