Prime Minister Narendra Modi took on the Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan-led Left Democratic Fund (LDF) and the Congress-led United Democratic Fund (UDF) while addressing a rally in Alathur on Monday (15 April).
He claimed that while the country is progressing under the Bharatiya janata Party (BJP) rule, LDF and UDF are "pushing Kerala behind." He alleged that the state government is creating obstacles in the Centre's efforts.
"They want to stop National Highway projects because Left has a single character, be it in Tripura, Bengal or Kerala. Left's character is nothing left and nothing right," Modi said.
The PM explained that wherever Left rules, nothing remains left there and also nothing goes right there. He said that the ruling government has to be blamed for the water scarcity problem in Kerala despite abundant natural resources.
Modi alleged that political violence is prevalent in Kerala and even college campuses are not free from becoming a haven for anti-social elements, without naming the Wayanad suicide case where SFI members are accused.
"People's money is being openly looted. They bring new models of corruption. They want to loot every single money," the PM said citing the Karuvannur "bank scam" and attacked CPM for it.
Modi's remarks comes a week after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) started investigating CPM's local committees in Rs 100 crore scam. CPM leader PK Biju was questioned over eight hours by the ED in the case.
