The counting of votes for the Assembly elections in four states - Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Telangana - is underway.
While BJP has crossed the halfway mark in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, Congress crossed the majority mark in Telangana, according to early trends and leads.
However, in Chhattisgarh, where early trends were suggesting that Congress was headed for a majority, now the BJP has closed the gap, with chance of the saffron party scoring a victory in the state too, with Congress only managing to win Telangana.
Early trends suggest BJP is leading on 156 seats in 230-seat MP Assembly elections while congress trails with 71 seats.
In the elections for 199-member Rajasthan Assembly, BJP is ahead on 104 seats while Congress is leading on 72 seats.
In 90-seat Chhattisgarh Assembly elections, the ruling Congress is ahead on 47 seats while BJP trails with leads on 41 seats.
In Telangana, Congress is leading on 70 of the 119 assembly seats while ruling BRS is tailing with leads on 37 seats.
The results for Mizoram - the fifth state where Assembly polls were conducted- will be announced Tomorrow as the Election Commission has postponed the counting of votes there by a day.
The BJP and Congress are in a close contest, with exit polls predicting victories for each in two states.
Seat counting is happening for 230 seats in Madhya Pradesh, 90 seats in Chhattisgarh, 119 seats in Telangana, and 199 seats in Rajasthan.
The Congress currently governs Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, while the BJP holds power in Madhya Pradesh. Exit polls suggest a BJP triumph in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, and the Congress retaining control in Chhattisgarh.
