The Election Commission is set to unveil the timetable for assembly elections in five states on Monday (9 October) at 12 noon. The states in focus are Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Mizoram.
Notably, the Mizoram assembly's term concludes on 17 December, where the Mizo National Front currently holds power. Meanwhile, the legislative assemblies of Telangana, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh have varying end dates in January next year.
Telangana is presently governed by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the BJP holds sway in Madhya Pradesh, while the Congress is in control in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.
According to India Today sources, the voting is likely to be held between the second week of November and the first week of December. The counting of all states will take place on the same day.
Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram and Telangana may vote in a single phase, like the last time in 2018, while polling in Chhattisgarh is likely to be held in two phases.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
