Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) women wing's national president Vanathi Srinivasan on Saturday (22 July) released a video, claiming that two tribal women were stripped naked and mercilessly beaten in West Bengal.

She also questioned the silence of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on the incident that allegedly took place in the state's Malda.

The BJP leader also slammed the leaders of 26-party Opposition alliance, called I.N.D.I.A, for not condemning the alleged incident.

"Deeply disturbing visuals from Malda, WB where two tribal women were stripped naked and beaten mercilessly," Srinivasan said in a tweet.

She also posted a video with blurred images of the crime.

"While Mamata Banerjee sheds copious tears on the incidents happened elsewhere, she is silent on this incident. This exposes her failure as a CM," the BJP Mahila Morcha chief said.

"No leader from Thagbandhan I.N.D.I.A. have condemned this. This shows they have no seriousness for the safety of the women and just doing propaganda politics," she added.

BJP IT department chief Amit Malaviya said that the two tribal women "were stripped naked, tortured and beaten mercilessly, while police remained a mute spectator".

He said that the incident took place on the morning of 19 July.

"The women belonged to socially marginalised community and had a frenzied mob baying for her blood…," Malviya, who is also party's co-incharge for West Bengal, said in a tweet.

"It had all the making of a tragedy that should have ‘broken’ Mamata Banerjee’s heart and she, instead of merely outraging, could have acted, since she is also the Home Minister of Bengal…But she chose to do nothing. Neither did she condemn the barbarity nor did she express pain and anguish because it would have exposed her own failing as a Chief Minister," the BJP IT department head added.

"But a day after, she shed copious tears and screamed blue murder, because it was politically expedient…," he said, attacking Mamata Banerjee who has been strident in criticising the Manipur incident.
