India Successfully Test-Fires Indigenously Built Guided Multi-Barrel Rocket Launch System PINAKA From Pokhran

India on Monday (11 March 2019) successfully test-fired the guided PINAKA multi-barrel rocket launch system from the Pokhran ranges with the artillery meeting all its mission objectives.
“Defence Research and Defence Organisation (DRDO) today successfully test fired the Guided PINAKA... In both the missions, the weapon systems impacted the intended targets with high precision and achieved desired accuracies,” noted a government release.
“Telemetry Systems tracked and monitored the vehicle all through the flight path. All the mission objectives have been met,” added the release. “The indigenously developed Guided Pinaka by DRDO will significantly boost the capability of the artillery to make precision hits.”
Guided Pinaka is an upgraded version of the original Pinaka system developed in the 90s. It is jointly developed by ARDE Pune, RCI Hyderabad and DRDL Hyderabad. ITR Chandipur provides the range and launch support.
The system incorporates Inertial Navigation Systems (INS)/ Global Positioning System (GPS) for the mid-course guidance with an accuracy of 60m to 80m at all ranges.
Dhanush Guns
It was also recently reported that the Defence Ministry had cleared the acquisition of 114 Dhanush artillery guns to bolster the Indian Army.
These guns would be manufactured by the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) and it would be the first such long-range gun made in India. It will fire a NATO 155mm ammunition and can be fitted with a bi-modular charge system (BMCS), thereby increasing its range.
