1. Analyst — Infrastructure And Energy (2 openings)

Swarajya is currently building a 'one-stop shop' for all news, data, analysis, and best practices on Indian infrastructure. The platform will publish news stories, commentaries, ground reports, long-form reportage, company analysis, videos, interviews, policy intelligence briefings, dashboards, daily newsletters, research reports across various infrastructure sectors — road, rail, metro, airport, power etc.

We are looking to immediately hire for the following two positions:

a)    Analyst — Transportation and Urban Infrastructure

Roles and Responsibilities:

●    Write on a daily basis breaking news report, curations, analysis based on research report, commentary, detailed ground reports and occasional long forms on key infrastructure developments in India, covering projects and programmes in the area of roads (highways/expressways), railways (DFC, metro, RRTS), aviation, ports, waterways, and also city infrastructure covering urban housing, waste and water, smart cities.

●    Help conceptualise and build a unified dashboard with drill down functionality that will serve as a repository of key projects in roads, ports, airports, metro, rail, affordable housing, energy etc.

●    Produce a weekly newsletter and occasional podcasts on key infrastructure developments in India.

●    Actively engage with infrastructure experts in order to stay up to date with infrastructure related best practices, and build a strong commentary capability in this area.

Qualifications:

●    Bachelor’s degree with good academic record in engineering (preferred), real estate, urban studies, public policy, finance, business administration and relevant fields with a flair for research and writing.

●    While 1-2 years’ experience in infrastructure related fields will be useful, individuals from other domains who are passionate about infrastructure can apply.

●    Deep interest and good understanding of transport infrastructure and urbanisation.

●    Extremely well-read, always curious and argumentative. A candidate who wakes up every morning with a mild sense of panic over having missed the last six hours of the news cycle.

●    Should be familiar with digital publishing tools such as content management systems, social media tools and dashboard/analytics tools.

●    Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

b) Lead Analyst — Energy and Battery Metals

Roles and Responsibilities:

●    Write on a daily basis breaking news reports, curations, analysis based on research report, commentary, detailed ground reports and occasional long forms in the area of energy (especially renewables) and battery metals.

●    Produce a weekly newsletter and occasional podcasts on key developments in energy/metal sector in India.

●    Actively engage with energy sector experts in order to stay up to date with infrastructure related best practices, and build a strong commentary capability in this area.

Qualifications:

●    Engineering/science degree with good academic record and a flair for writing or prior reporting experience covering energy sector for other publications.

●    Deep interest and excellent understanding of renewable energy issues and market trends especially in areas of solar, wind and nuclear, battery metals in India and in global context.

●    Extremely well-read, always curious and argumentative. A candidate who wakes up every morning with a mild sense of panic over having missed the last six hours of the news cycle.

●    Should be familiar with digital publishing tools such as content management systems, social media tools and dashboard/analytics tools.

●    Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    
2. Staff Writer (Business and Markets) – 1 Opening

●    Pitch, report, and write stories on

●    Produce a weekly newsletter and occasional podcasts on key developments in energy/metal sector in India.

●    Actively engage with energy sector experts in order to stay up to date with infrastructure related best practices, and build a strong commentary capability in this area.

Qualifications:

●    A degree in economics/finance will be helpful but not a prerequisite. Journalistic experience is not necessary.

●    Extremely well-read, always curious and argumentative. We look for candidates who wake up every morning with a mild sense of panic over having missed the last six hours of the news cycle.

●    Good understanding of micro and macro-economic trends, an ability to analyse corporate financial statements, track key developments in the corporate world, analyse equity and fixed income markets.

●    Produce news items on both immediate developments and long term trends. Should be familiar with digital publishing tools such as Content Management Systems and social media tools.

3. Staff Writer (Economics) – 1 Opening

●    Write on a daily basis news reports, curations, analysis based on research reports, commentary and occasional long forms covering macro and micro economic issues in India.

●    Produce a weekly newsletter and occasional podcasts on key developments in economy

Qualifications:

●    A degree in economics will be helpful but not a prerequisite

●    3-4 years’ experience writing for a daily news publication (preferable); experience writing on economic topics, especially trade and fiscal policy.

●    Produce news items on both immediate developments and long-term trends. Should be familiar with digital publishing tools such as Content Management Systems and social media tools.

4.   Staff Writer (Technology Policy) – 1 Opening

●    Write detailed reports, commentary and quick curations on emerging technology, big tech-state regulatory dynamics, technology policies and digitisation initiatives in India. Also cover key developments India’s IT/ITes and Start-up ecosystems.

●    Candidates should have a good understanding of geopolitical dimension in technology-related policy making.

Qualifications:

●    Engineering/science degree with good academic record and a flair for writing or prior reporting experience covering Technology sector for other publications.

5.   Staff Writer (Politics) – 2 Openings

●    Writing and reporting on ongoing political developments, analysing emerging political landscape, produce data-driven commentary on electoral politics.

●    Acquiring insights and reporting on state-level political trends and development based on networking with local political analysts and commentators

●    Field reporting during election cycles

Qualifications:

●    Good academic record and a flair for writing 

●    Deep understanding of electoral politics, ideological movements

6.   Staff Writer (Geopolitics) – 1 Opening

●    Write detailed reports, commentary, and quick curations on key geopolitical developments.

●    A daily email briefing on geopolitics that expertly curates industry news, data, events and commentary

Qualifications:

●    Deep understanding of geopolitics, the key players and the trends and information

●    Extremely well-read, always curious and argumentative. We look for candidates who wake up every morning with a mild sense of panic over having missed the last six hours of the news cycle.

●    Produce news items on both immediate developments and long term trends. Should be familiar with digital publishing tools such as Content Management Systems and social media tools.

7.   Copy Editor – 2 Openings

●    Edit, clean, draft and publish copies which have been filed by authors. This would include scanning for spelling and grammar errors; simplifying complicated sentences/paragraphs; drafting the article on the Content Management System; choosing an appropriate image; publishing the article; and sharing the article on social media. 

●    Ensure that articles uploaded on the website are error-free and easy-to-read. 

●    Ensure articles have appropriate and catchy headlines, and social media posts are catchy without sounding outrageous or unnecessarily provocative. 

Qualifications:

●    3-5 years experience working as part of a copy-editing team. 

●    Expert-level knowledge of English grammar and spellings. 

●    Familiarity with digital publishing tools. 

●    Familiarity with searching the internet for free-to-use images (you should be familiar with Wikimedia Commons or Flickr, at least).
