With the objective of providing highest quality of schooling, teaching and learning to students enrolled in government schools across the state, Gujarat education department has invited 'Expressions of Interest' (Eoi) from interested education providers to set up and operate 'Residential Schools of Excellence' (RSE) on 'Public Private Partnership' (PPP) mode.

Under the scheme, most meritorious students studying in Government Schools across the State will be identified and provided with the best quality residential, free of cost education from Grade 6 to 12

The 'Residential Schools of Excellence' will cater to 100,000 students across grades 6 to 12. The school will ensure modern learning infrastructure, residential hostel facilities, sports & games facilities, arts, craft and vocational / skill training for holistic development of students. Each school is envisaged as campus catering to 2,000 to 10,000 students.

The residential schools will admit students from the government and grant-in-aid schools selected through a State-level common entrance exam at the end of grade V.

The school will also Identify and nurture gifted students, providing career guidance, orientation for competitive exams and best coaching facilities for entrance exams like JEE, NEET and other competitive exams like civil services examinations.

All capital investment towards setting up the schools will be borne by project partners, who will provide land and invest in the civil and digital infrastructure required from time to time.

While the entire capital cost will be met by project partners, the education department will assist in meeting the recurring cost by paying a lump-sum amount for each student to the project partners each year. A lumpsum amount of Rs. 60,000 per child per annum for the financial year 2021-22 with an annual increase of 7% every year has been proposed.

To address the unmet need of high-quality residential schools, the education department had earlier announced a policy to encourage setting up of world class Residential Schools of Excellence within the State on Public Private Partnership.
