Dear Reader,

How are you this fine Sunday morning? I'm writing to draw your attention to a rather saddening story we published last week.

A 14 year old girl goes missing from the Sultanpuri area of Delhi. It was suspected that she had been lured away by a 31 year old man in her neighbourhood. Now whatever be the circumstances of the girl's parents and the man's background what one would expect the police station in the locality to do would be to register a case and get the girl back.

Here's what our reporter found out: the police were extremely reluctant to so much as file an FIR leave alone trace the girl. Why? Because they were fearful of being branded communal or being dragged into politics of religion!

Thankfully the girl has now been rescued but do take some time to read Swati Goel Sharma's detailed report about how the police were so scared of being branded communal and dithered initially. Dear reader, what you see in this case is an instance of political correctness getting the better of common sense. It is the same fear that stopped UK police from acting against "child grooming" gangs sexually exploiting hundreds of children in Britain.

Unwarranted and over-exaggerated political correctness pervades the mainstream media like plague. At Swarajya we're not very keen to follow this herd - we want to go out there and report on such stories. To not do so would be to cause extraordinary harm to our society and children.

But Swarajya can only invest and pursue such stories if we have your support in the form of subscriptions. Your subscriptions keep us going - literally.
