Over the Moon, with a half-Earth in the background. (NASA/Newsmakers)
When Neil Armstrong took that step on the moon on July 20, 1969, it was such a bold achievement for American science that till today, scores of Americans believe that he, Aldrin and Collins never went there and that NASA faked the moon landing in a studio.
That one mission to the moon, and NASA’s outreach into space in general, spawned countless technological breakthroughs-- some found their way into the hands of a soldier, others into the hands of a homemaker.
Today, in 2018, Indian science has proven its worth by precisely placing numerous satellites into the Earth’s orbit, and putting a probe each into the orbits of the Moon and Mars.
But this is not enough. No, we want more.
This is the moment in history to be audacious, to aim higher than the target, to dream big. This is the time when we say. put an Indian on the moon.
The October 2018 issue of Swarajya presents a collection of articles by top-notch scientists arguing with precision on why:
- India needs to aim for putting an Indian crew on the moon.
- Where we stand in terms of capacity for the project
- What are the pitfalls that should be avoided
and much more.
This is a collectors' issue - perhaps the best one we've produced so far. Get your print copy today. Enjoy reading and imagining about what could be India's greatest project.
