Bharat Electronics, DMRC To Jointly Develop Technology For Unmanned Operations Of Trains

Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) has signed a pact with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) limited on Monday (7 November) for joint development of the technology that enables unmanned operations of trains.

"Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) withDelhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (DMRC) for jointly developing the Indigenous Communication-based Train Control System (i-CBTC), an important milestone in India's journey towards self-reliance in Rail and Metro operations," BEL said in a statement.

The i-CBTC, being indigenously developed for the first time in India, will enable unmanned operations of metro and trains. 


The project is being carried out under the ambit of the Central government's Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).

The MoU aims at leveraging the complementary strengths and capabilities of BEL and DMRC, the statement said.

The MoU was exchanged by BEL director (R&D) Manoj Jain and DMRC director (electrical) Om Hari Pandey in the presence of DMRC advisor Raj Kumar Batra and senior executives of BEL and DMRC.
