India's Coal Production From Captive, Commercial Mines Crosses 100 Million Tonne For First Time

India’s coal production exclusively from captive and commercial mines has crossed 100 million tonne for the first time, as per the Coal Ministry's latest figures till 2 March.

Coal production from captive and commercial coal blocks was around 5.09 lakh tonne on 2 March 2023, which was the highest ever single day production, according to the ministry.

"Production from captive/commercial coal mines during current FY till February has increased by 29.8 per cent over FY 2021-22," the ministry said.


According to the ministry, four new coal mines have started  production in FY 2022-23 and two other coal mines will start production this month.

Earlier on Wednesday (1 March), the Coal Ministry announced that India's coal production touched 784.41 million tonne during April 2022-February 2023, surpassing last year's production.
