Ola, Uber And Rapido Asked To Stop Autorickshaw Services In Bengaluru In Three Days After Overcharging Complaints

The Karnataka government has directed Ola, Uber and Rapido to stop their autorickshaw services in Bengaluru within three days after several complaints of overcharging.

The state government's transport department has termed the auto services run by the cab aggregators ‘illegal’ under On-Demand Transportation Technology Act 2016. 

The order comes after commuters registered complaints with the transport department stating that Ola, Uber charges Rs 100 even for a distance below 2 kilometres. 

The department has asked the ride-hailing platforms to discontinue their auto services at the earliest and also not to charge passengers in taxis more than the fare prescribed by the government.

It also warned the companies of legal action if they fail to comply with the order.

Transport commissioner THM Kumar was cited in a Economic Times report as saying that the licence has been granted to the aggregators to run only taxis and not autos as per the Karnataka On-Demand Transportation Technology Aggregators Rules, 2016.
