Job Cuts: Burger Giant McDonald's To Begin Layoffs; US Staff 'Work From Home' To Get News — Report

McDonald's, a global fast-food giant, has shut all its offices in the United States (US) this week to notify its corporate staff of impending layoffs, according to the Wall Street Journal.
McDonald's US employees were instructed to work from home Monday through Wednesday. The purpose of the move, as per the report, was to deliver the layoffs news virtually.
It is not known how many employees will be affected.
In an internal email, McDonald's said they'll inform staff of important role- and staffing-level changes across the organisation during the week of 3 April.
Employees have also been asked to cancel all in-person meetings scheduled this week.
The fast-food chain has been assessing its corporate staffing levels and may downsize in some areas while expanding in others, as part of a new business strategy.
Employees may be delivered the layoff news on Wednesday (5-6 April, India time).
Companies have taken the route of job cuts to offset the global economic slowdown and soaring inflation. Google, Amazon, and Facebook are among the technology giants that have recently downsized their operations.
US technology companies' mass layoffs have disproportionately impacted Indian workers on temporary visas. With little time to find new employment, hundreds have been left without jobs.
