Sensex Touches 71,000 Mark For The First Time As Stocks Gain In Worldwide Markets

On Friday (15 December), the BSE Sensex made a historic leap, surpassing the 71,000 mark for the first time. During the morning trade, the 30-share BSE Sensex surged by 569.88 points, achieving a record high of 71,084.08.

In the morning trading session, significant gains were observed in Infosys, Tech Mahindra, HCL Technologies, Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro, and JSW Steel, Hindustan Times reported.

The total market value of companies listed on the BSE reached an all-time high of Rs 357 lakh crore in early trading on Friday.

Trading gains were observed in Asian markets such as Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. Meanwhile, the US markets concluded with an increase on Thursday.

On Monday, the Benchmark Sensex soared beyond the 70,000 mark for the first time during early trading. The 30-share BSE index reached a peak of 70,057 points on 11 December but experienced a minor decline, concluding Monday at 69,988.

The Sensex, inaugurated on 2 January 1986, consists of 30 stocks that are representative of the Indian stock market. It serves as a significant gauge of India's financial well-being.

From the end of March to late November, the Sensex experienced a significant increase of approximately 12,400 points, rising from 57,5271. During this period, the broader Nifty 50 also reached the 20,000 mark for the first time.
